The stone guard in Dortmund is a reminding and a memorial place of the of the Nazi period and accommodates the constant exhibition "resistance and pursuit in Dortmund 1933-1945" of the Dortmunder of city archives.

History

The stone guard Dortmund was furnished to 1906 in the Dortmunder the north with difficulty controllable because of its workers and was until 1933 a police prison. From 1933 to 1945 took over the Gestapo, installed special torture cells and kept into that about 50 detention cells imprisoned altogether 65,000 men and women, of it 30,000 for political reasons. In the night of 9. to 10 November 1938 (Reichspogromnacht) was brought 75% to the Jewish population of Dortmund first to the stone guard and deportiert afterwards. The passengers were cross-examined, abused and tortured, and many of them were deportiert from there out into a concentration camp. The stone guard was considered as "hell of West Germany". From the stone guard toward end of the war in March 1945 the arrested ones were together-driven and murdered in the Rome mountain park and in the bitter Mark cold-bloodedly. Reminded of these crimes today the memorial bitter Mark after 1945 was furnished in the stone guard with partially identical personnel occupation again a police station and used until 1976. Of 1961 - 1989 served the stone guard as homeless shelter today are accommodated the stone guard reminding and memorial place and since October 1992 the constant exhibition "resistance and pursuit in Dortmund 1933-1945". For this exhibition the stone guard was reconstructed historical. To the time witnesses, who could report on their arrest, the cardinal Johannes Joachim Degenhardt and the noble pointing mirror-image advice Kurt Piehl belonged.
