Stoewer was an enterprise resident from 1858 to 1945 in Stettin. It became predominantly as auto and a bicycle manufacturer admits.

Firm history

The enterprise was created 1858 of Bernhard Stoewer in Stettin as finemechanical repair workshop. In the same year also with production by sewing machines one began.

1893 were taken up production by bicycles, starting from 1903 also the production of typewriters.

In the year 1896 the Stettiner became iron work Bernhard Stoewer sen. create, which the company with part for the production supply and additional with the production of furnace begin. At the same time the parent plant under the name of sewing machine and bicycles factory Bernhard Stoewer was converted into a corporation.

1899 became the iron work of the sons (Bernhard Stoewer June. and Emil Stoewer) transferred, and to brothers Stoewer, factory for motor vehicles renamed. In the same year as the first model the large Stoewer engine car was presented. Stoewer belongs thereby to the pioneers of the auto+'s building in Germany.

1916 were converted also the iron work under the name of Stoewer works into a corporation. In the subsequent years the enterprise made itself a name as a small series manufacturer high-quality and sporty luxury cars, which on eye level with Horch and Mercedes competed. Stoewer tried to compete never on the mass-market. This and the solid financial basis made possible it in the consequence also, the large dying of the automakers in the world economic crisis to began Stoewer for the front wheel drive car V5 with 1,2 litres, 25 HP of four-cylinders V-engine to develop its first small car. Already in the same year he was built and tested. In January 1931 the quantity production began with 2100 vehicles to 1932.Es followed the R140 with 1,4 l row engine and 30 HP by that 2310 vehicles was built. Afterwards those followed ever more largely who those cars in the medium range R150 and R180 and the STOEWER seize V8 with 2,0 litres, 57 HP V-engine and front wheel drive.

1935 to 1945 Stoewer into central steered arms production were merged. The Stoewer LEPKW (lighter unit passenger car) was thereby with 11000 copies also the usually-built automobile of Stoewer. The LEPKW was built additionally also by BMW and Hanomag under license. As not military passenger cars into the time of the STOEWER reach junior (TATRA license) and the Sedina and Arkona of models built. These cars had again rear propulsion.

Toward end of the war with Stoewer in Stettin also the NSU Kettenkrad under license was built.

With end of war Stettin fell to Poland and firm history ended. The factories were dismantled and spent into the USSR. In the Politechni museum in Moscow is also the only received copy of the large engine car.
