The Steyr Mannlicher GmbH & CO.KG is a Austrian firearm manufacturer, that came out from the former Austrian armament makers company, once part of the Steyr Daimler of Puch company. Engineer Ferdinand Karl Adolf Josef, knight of Mannlicher had large portion of the success of the Austrian armament makers company, since he had been involved also in the development of a very successful repeating rifle. After the death of the founder of the Austrian armament makers company, Josef Werndl, Mannlicher took over the company, which received its name then in the course of the time.
To the lost wars 1918 and 1945 came weapon production in each case to succumbing. After that 1. World war was again taken up together with Swiss armament makers Solothurn AG production by weapons. After that 2. World war were again taken up to arrangement with the US High Commissioner production by hunting weapons starting from 1950. With the introduction of the Austrian federal army also again war weapons were produced.
Mannlicher was above all famous for its hunting weapons, with which to today the world one supplies. Mainly the company produces however from the outset military weapons, which are still world-wide used also today (and interestingly enough even into the USA to be sold).
The most well-known product of the company is the storm rifle STEYR August. As Austrian arms manufacturers is subject the enterprise to the strict regulations of the Austrian neutrality act from the convention. Since the legal text is however not accurately defined, there are debates in the Austrian policy regularly over it, whether weapon material may be supplied to a certain country, or not. So no rifles may be supplied with to the export of 800 precision rifles of the type to South America, but according to decision of the ministry of the Interior: Federation 50 into Iran one agreed. This export, which took place in the year 2005, was to be imposed however cause for the USA a weapons embargo against the enterprise.
