STEP (standard for the Exchange OF Product model DATA) is a standard for the description of product data. This description covers physical also functional aspects of a product beside. STEP is formally in the ISO standard 10303 defined. Due to the standardisation STEP for data exchange between different systems is suitable. Within STEPS product data information of the entire Lebenszyklusses can be illustrated. Thus the use of STEPS for the different ranges of application is suitable and/or - systems as for example CAD, CAM, PDM, DMU and CAE.
