Staff boat man designates a soldier in the second highest sergeant rank in Germany with the German Federal Armed Forces within the German navy. In the other armed services this rank is called Csm. Belonging one of the group of careers of the officers do not go through this rank usually.

Soldiers in this rank can give crews and NCOs without Portepee of instructions within the borders set by the superior regulation (VorgV).

Staff boat man occupation NCOs can reach the rank after at the earliest 16 years service in the rank Bootsmann and 10 years in the rank main boat man. StBtsm are remunerated according to the paying table of the federation with A9.
