SsangYong engine (Korean: ssangyong - Zwillingsdrache) is the fourth largest South Korean car manufacturers. It was created 1954 as Hadonghwan engine company, which manufactured jeeps for the US army. Starting from 1976 Hadonghwan built special vehicles. After the company had been renamed 1977 in Dong A engine, it was transferred of the 1988 of the Ssangyong Business Group and and changed thereby the names again in SsangYong engine. 1991 were agreed upon a technology partnership with Daimler Benz (today DaimlerChrysler). One took over the British special vehicle manufacturer Panther of west wind.

1997 bought Daewoo of engine finally the majority participation at the enterprise, which sold her to 2000 however again, because the mixing company (korean. Jaebeol) into financial problems came. At the end of October 2004 took over the Chinese car manufacturer SAIC (Shanghai of automotives Industry corporation) 48.9% of the portions of SsangYong of engine company.
