Spin off one generally calls a folder.

Technology

A spin off designates the use of an innovation or a technology within a range within the range of the technology, for which she was originally not developed.

As good example the laser is to be called, to that after its development as coherent source of light introduction into a broad pallet of ranges found (laser printers, laser pointers, lasers for material processing and many other more).

Also one calls establishments from universities spin off.

Well-known examples from department separating are: Infineon (Siemens), Lanxess (Bavarian), T-mobile (German Telekom), CO2 (British Telecom)

Design

In the Design spin off generally means folders of a product or an article. Meant is thus a draft, which leans against another or decreases/goes back on these.

Media

Within the range of the media spin off designates a folder in form of a series (and/or a film or a book), which is based on another series.

One differentiates 2 different types from spin Offs:

Direct spin Offs

The action strand of one or several figures, which already admits from the nut/mother series is, is resumed in its own series. Usually they leave for this the Hauptserie to the extent, which they held before.

An example of is here Joey, a spin off of the Sitcom Friends, in which the action strand is resumed approximately around Joey Tribbiani.

Indirect spin Offs

Completely new figures play in a series, which resembles the original series in various points. If the figures of this new series are introduced to a series sequence of the output series, one speaks also of a Backdoor pilot.

Examples of indirect spin Offs with Backdoor pilot are:

  • of CSI - The authors on the trace
  • Navy CIS of HUNT - on behalf the honour

Examples

First such series was The Andy Griffith show (the USA 1960-1968), a spin off of the Danny Thomas show (alias Make room for Daddy). (There are 4 further spin offs.)
