Sphinx (1886-1896) was a magazine, which should obtain the theosophische world view. It was published in Leipzig and Braunschweig von Wilhelm von Schleiden and appeared monthly.

The magazine called itself as monthly review for the historical and experimentale reason of the world view on monistischer basis and appeared for the first time in January 1886. At first understood yourself the magazine also as publication organ of the Loge Germania. Primarily topics were published approximately around Metaphysik, Mystik, philosophy and Indian religion science. The occurrence corresponded to a scientific technical periodical, the theosophische world view stood however with the articles in the foreground.

The magazine exerted large influence on some theosophische societies in Germany and contributed also considerably to the establishment the same. Above all this was the Theosophi combination, the Esoteri circle and the union of these two to the German Theosophi society.

Coworkers were beside Schleiden among other things max of Dessoir, Franz Hartmann, Karl gravel weather and Carl you Prel. From 1891 to 1894 the painter Fidus created numerous illustrations for the Sphinx. Dessoir published 1889 in the Sphinx for the first time the term Parapsychologie.

Rudolf Tischner according to took over the magazine new one metaphysical one starting from 1897 round-looks the follow-up of the Sphinx, after their last expenditure had appeared in June 1896.
