Speedo is a swimming article manufacturer, whose history goes into the year 1914 back, when the Australian enterprise MacRae Knitting Mills tried to extend their product range by swimming clothing.
The term Speedo was used for the first time 1928, when the enterprise wanted to bring the first swimming clothing in the running driver Design on the market. The product was marketed at that time under the Slogan speed on in your Speedos. During the Second World War Speedo changed nearly entire production over to the production of war products such as mosquito nets. After the war the enterprise took production. 1955 took up Speedo nylon to its material pallet for the production of swimming articles.
The olympic summer games 1956 brought for Speedo the break-through with nylon and the introduction to the scarce bath clothing for men. The enterprise expanded internationally, not least owing to successes with the olympic plays 1968, 1972 and 1976:70 % of the Medalliengewinner of the floats carried swimming clothing of Speedo. In the 70ern and 80ern new materials were taken up such as Lycra for the production of the swimming clothing. To the late 1990ern Speedo introduced again new materials and began with the lines Aquablade and Fastskin with their assistance the water resistance when swimming, by a surface such as shark fish skin, is very strongly reduced. Also it gives today, apart from the traditional cuts for swimming clothing, of Speedo which cover no longer only the smallest part of the body, but partly even the full body.
Also in passed the years products were taken up such as leisure swimming clothing, swimming eyeglasses, ear plugs, towels, swimming boards, sport clothes and other emblem clothes, clocks, Sandalen, Beachvolleyball and Triathlonprodukte to the product range by Speedo. Speedo supports today also and hopeful swimming sportsmen such as Steffen Deibler, Janet Evans, Michael Phelps and Amanda Beard by Sponsoring.
