Speed is a mark for paper handkerchiefs. Speed the first German paper handkerchief mark. The label name itself in the meantime and thus the term monopoly became. In Germany one calls colloquially paper handkerchiefs speed, also, if it does not concern with the paper handkerchief the mark speed. In the USA the mark Kleenex has a similar meaning.

Enterprise and mark

On 29 January 1929 the united paper works Nuremberg let the registered trade mark speed announce at the realm patent office in Berlin. The entry of the registered trade mark took place on 18 September 1929 and the publication in the registered trade mark sheet on 15 October 1929. The patent number reads 407752. The product idea one attributes to the partner at that time of the united paper works Oskar of rose fields. The origins of the label name speed are unknown against it. The parent plant of the united paper works was in Heroldsberg with Nuremberg, where before 1929 sanitary articles were already manufactured. In the years to 1933 transferred only home-workers and late welfare workshops to Nuremberg folding the handkerchiefs. With the constant use of processing machines the production volume on 150 million pieces could be increased in the year 1935. In the same year the entrepreneur Gustav Schickedanz (1895-1977) acquired the united paper works. It secured itself with it the trademark laws at speed at the same time. The rising demand led to the purchase of the paper works in Forchheim, which were likewise in the proximity of Nuremberg settled. In the year of the outbreak of the Second World War the production volume amounted to already 400 million pieces. During the Second World War production was first strongly limited and adjusted perfectly later, because the speed handkerchief did not experience consideration in the list of war-important goods. Only in December 1947 production could be taken up to Heroldsberg and Forchheim again. Also after the war the sales and thus the manufacturing volume continued to increase. 1955 sold the united paper works for the first time more than 1 billion handkerchiefs. The strong demand led to the establishment of further production locations in luck city (1958), Neuss (1962) and gel churches (1972). The extension of the production plants permitted 1977 the production of more than ten billion handkerchiefs. Between 1985 and 1987 entire production is shifted to Neuss. The company form of the united paper works changes from a limited partnership to the corporation in the year 1986. Starting from April 1989 arises the company under the Firmierung VP-Schickedanz AG, which was bought up 1994 by US-American company the Procter & Gamble. The production volume rose after the assumption to more than 20 billion handkerchiefs in the year 2004.

Product development

1929 to 1949

From 1929 to 1939 in each case 18 paper handkerchiefs in blue, red and green printed on Pergamin packings sold. 1939 were adjusted production packings green printed on by red and and packing contents increased to 20 handkerchiefs.

1950 to 1959

Into the 1950er years came it to a repeated revision of the speed packing. 1950 was developed speed packings with a removable narrow side, which served at the same time as storage vessels. 1953 are introduced the so-called "Brechpackung ". It concerned a simply divisible packing with two times ten handkerchiefs.

1960 to 1969

The introduction "of the speed grasp "in the year 1963 should serve the more practical development of the handkerchief. One year later for the first time multiple packing in the trade was offered. The first multiple packing was the 6er-Pack. Apart from the sales of handkerchiefs starting from 1967 also table napkins in two sizes and several colors and were sold. Starting from 1969 kitchen roles enriched the speed Produkfamilie.

1970 to 1979

Into the 1970er years came further multiple packing into the trade: 1970 the 10er-Pack, 1971 10er-Pack with Menthol and that superluggage with 18 handkerchief packages, 1978 the supply packing with 42 packages contents. Starting from 1973 beside white also yellow, red and orange handkerchiefs were offered. The so-called Z-folding of the handkerchiefs was introduced 1975, which a still easier development should make possible. Fundamental change in the appearance of the packing resulted with the change to foil soft packings in the year 1978.

1980 to 1989

Starting from 1988 the foil packings were again lockable.

1990 to 1999

Since 1990 excluding oxygen-bleached cellulose for the production of the handkerchiefs one uses. In the year 1995 two new speed products are introduced: Speed plus with aloe Vera and speed Menthol with "breath-freely feeling". One year later is brought the smaller format to speed Compact on the market. The speed box is introduced in the year 1999, which contains 100 handkerchiefs as pulling box (only 80 pieces with apparently same packing, source: Donation goods test 4/2006 S.7). In the same year speed packages with Cartoons were sold for the first time. The first packages were arranged by Uli stone (*1946).

2000 until today

Sales and advertisement

The first advertisement for speed handkerchiefs appeared on 29 December 1929 in the citizens of Berlin Illustrierten.Man platzierte the paper handkerchief, by stressing the hygiene in the advertisement by the a mark use - contrary to the material handkerchief - and the ultimate tensile strength.
