Specialist may call himself in Germany only that physician, who completed and successfully with a specialist examination locked a further training of several years. For length of time, training further contents and charge of Vorzeiten the national physician chambers for their scope of responsibility issue a training further order.
The acquisition of the title "specialist "is for some years a condition for the permission as a contract physician of the legal health insurances. Up to then it was possible to establish itself also as "a practical physician ".
At present efforts exist to abolish the internal medicine as independent area. In some Lands of the Federal Republic for it the area designations were inserted "inside and general medicine "as well as the area designations of the subsections (Kardiologie, Gastroenterologie etc.).
