Special stamps are all officially recognized stamps for the cancellation of stamps, which are used only with a certain cause. A special stamp can refer on only one day and be pulled then to traffic. In addition, it can remain during the whole duration of an exhibition or a congress in the service of a certain post office or a special post office.

Special stamp gives it since 1862 in England and since 1875 in Germany. Special stamps find with special collecting tanks, within the Philatelisten, attention. They have their own evaluation, particularly in connection with the special stamps possibly published to the same cause.

The first well-known special stamp was published in Great Britain on the occasion of that internationally Exhibition 1862. In Germany is considered as first special stamps that, which was used from cause of the Cologne exhibition 1875.
