A special characteristic border (SML) combines similar articles into the simplified search in large volume of data.

Problem description

Example: In production enterprises there can be control many 100,000 parts in systems for production planning and - with the parts list data. If a new part must be developed, is important it to know whether it already gives a same or similar part in the data base. It is important, because a new part, indifferently whether individual part or building group, must be sketched drawn and be put on in the PPS system with parts list and parts list. In case of a part, which is to be procured from the outside, procure-relevant master data are to be seized, possible suppliers to determine, offers to catch up, test provisions for the quality inspection in the incoming goods to invent and the data for a normal stock updating and storage to prepare. In case of a part even which can be manufactured the job planning has to prepare the manufacturing and the assembly, it must schedules with the technological definition of the individual work procedures on suitable machines be prepared, times for remuneration and date and capacity planning be determined and NCs-Programm possibly programmed and finally is the part or the building group to calculate (pre-costing).

From this - incomplete - enumerating all tasks, which result with invention of a new part, is to be avoided evidently, as important it is to recognize similar parts promptly either around a new identification or, if a re-use is not possible, the work procedures, which result as consequence inevitably, resorting to and modification of similar designs, admitted suppliers, similar parts lists and schedules etc. to simplify and accelerate.

Definition of the special characteristic border

A special characteristic border is the summary of the special characteristic keys of a group of similar articles (or objects). Special characteristic keys describe the special characteristics or characteristics of an article. Special characteristics can be dimensions, forms, achievement sizes, materials, electrical, physical and chemical characteristics. DIN compares 4000 FF.

Use

Special characteristic borders serve the documentation of articles. They are to make fast access to parts, for building groups possible, products, designs, machines, jobs, schedules of an enterprise.
