The name SPAX is derived from the application and head form of the screw ''''' Spa ''' nplattenschraube with cross slot drive ('x ''').
SPAX is a protected label name for universal screws (selbstschneidene "universal screws "). It was introduced to the late 1950er years by the company ABC (Altenloh, Brinck & CO) from Ennepetal.
