The Soviet navigation industry was one the most efficient world and has still enormous resources and potential. An enormous number of types was developed and produced. Many of the formerly Soviet and now Russian, Ukrainian, kasachischen or Belorussian enterprises etc. became thereby too today internationally active companies.

Milestones of the Soviet shipbuilding industry:

• Building of the first atomic ice-breaker (atomic ice-breaker Lenin)
• Building of the world-wide largest nuclear-powered submarines (Typhoon class)
• Discovery and development of underwater torpedoes and submarines with supercavitation drive (Schkwal)
• Building of the first ground effect vehicle (Ekranoplan))
• first start of space vehicles and satellites from submarines (e.g. space vehicle demonstrator)
