The right term solitary confinement is named the separation of the prisoner from all other prisoners, accomplished in the execution of liberty-extracting measures.

It can have different reasons:

• In case of the remand anyway in principle an individual accommodation of the prisoners is prescribed ("§ 119 paragraph 1 StPO).
• During the detention can be arranged solitary confinement from security, order or disziplinarechtlichen reasons. Details regulate the execution of sentences law.
