The small newspaper is the largest regional daily paper of Austria, which appears in the Lands of the Federal Republic Steiermark, and also in Osttirol.

With an edition very high for Austrian conditions it operates a journalism independent within all ranges. Due to that about 800,000 readers according to Austrian Media analysis is also the political department of the "small ones" from high relevance in the local and federal state policy and large sport or music vents often stands under its star.

The small newspaper was created in the year 1904, the first expenditure appeared on Tuesday, 22 November of that yearly. Basic idea at that time was to publish an enormously cheap regional newspaper which turns special attention to the domestic procedures. Thus it is to differ from the remaining, predominantly Austrian newspapers produced in Vienna. With the fact the publishers believed that the price of two Heller per number stands there competitionless. Many articles of the small newspaper, which concern Austria far interesting topics, appear due to a co-operation contract also in the new Vorarlberger daily paper. The small newspaper is Genossenschafter of the Austria press agency.
