SINTRAL is the Spanish translation of LETS ("local exchange and trading system" - "local exchange and commercial system") and describes an alternative economic structure in Ecuador.

Development

1992 developed within the Educativa Pestalozzi" (one of school project in Ecuador) the first SINTRAL market in Ecuador against the Canadian LETS system were ajar. The SINTRAL net serves the trade without official currency and is active for the moment already in 13 provinces of Ecuador. Since at the beginning of of 2000 was drastically intensified the economic situation of most humans in Ecuador by the introduction of the US Dollar as national currency. While this crisis seized Mauricio game (the founder Educativa Pestalozzi") the resolution to create generally speaking country SINTRAL groups which can operate trade among themselves in a decentralized net. These groups spread particularly in the rural areas of Ecuador. Today country-wide already about 140 SINTRAL groups exist.
