Silver server is an Internet service Provider with seat in Vienna. The enterprise was created 1994 by Oskar Obereder and is focused on customers with professional requirements. The offer extends mainly to broadband Internet lines, Hosting, server housing and Internet Telefonie.

According to the status report 2005 the broadcast and Telekom adjustment GmbH ranks the Silver server GmbH at the number of lines and with the potenziellen supply of the Austrian households with ULL (Unbundeling local loop) at place 3.

History

Silver server was created 1994 in the surrounding field of cultural activists and mechanisms in Vienna.

1995 took place the installation of the first dedicated line, which offered and on ISDN based 64 KBit Datentransfer. In addition terminal servers for dial UP services were taken to Hosting in enterprise and offered Web, Mail and Domain Name System (DNS) -. With the Setup of mehrer locations in Vienna the net development began 1996. XDSL technology was used. 1998 opened the Telekom liberalisation in Austria to the enterprise new possibilities for the expansion. 2001 took place the establishment of the Silver server GmbH. Further an additional DATA center went to the net. 2002 took Silver server a glass fiber ring by Vienna as Backbone in enterprise. 2004 began to penetrate the enterprise into the VoIP range and accomplished first practice test. One year later was separated this new enterprise section than independent Silver VoIP GmbH.

Locations

The firm head office of Silver server is in the Lorenz one DL lane 33/1 in 16. Viennese municipality district. The enterprise maintains its own infrastructure in Vienna. Same applies to some switched centers in the upper-Austrian state capital Linz, where Silver server maintains however no own location.

Infrastructure

On 7 January 2001 Silver server took at that time 92.2 km (in the meantime over 115 km) long glass fiber ring to one approximately around Vienna as new Backbone in enterprise. Since 1 January 2002 is this glass fiber ring, which is tied up like the DATA centers with a redundant Gigabit line at the Vienna Internet Exchange (VIX) and InterXion, in commercial use.
