Professor Dr. Sidney Watkins (* 1932 in Liverpool, Great Britain), generally also as a professor Sid admits, is a neurosurgeon, who was from 1978 to 2004 an official Chefarzt of the FIA for Formel-1-Rennen.

Life

Start time

Watinks studied 1952 at the university of Liverpool and terminated its study. Afterwards it worked five years long for the Royal Army Medical Corps in west Africa, returned however immediately to Great Britain in order to specialize at the university Oxford in neurosurgery. At this time it began to interest also in engine haven and worked themselves in its spare time as a running physician on the Silverstone Circuit.

Watkins went to Syracuse becoming after the acceptance of an offer, professor of the neurosurgery to the State University OF New York returned however soon to England, in order to become boss of the neurosurgery at London hospital.

Formel-1-Karriere

In the year 1978 it met Bernie Ecclestone, which was at this time manager of the Brabham team and offered Watkins to take over the post as official Formel-1-Rennarzt. Watkins accepted the post and the FIA recognized in the course of the years that he had a large portion of the modernization of the medical standards of the formula 1. As a Chefarzt Watkins sat when each running in the Medical Car.

On 20 January announced Watkins its resignation from all medical posts of the FIA, remained however further president of the FIA of institutes for engine sport Safety. The FIA president max of Mosley appointed Watkins deputy of many years Gary hard stone as a successor.

Honour title

2002 became Watkins member order OF the British Empire. The university of Liverpool lent to it with a ceremony to 8. July 2004 an honour doctorate. On 8 October 2004 he became a first president of the FIA Foundation for the automobiles and Society and on 10 December of the same yearly became he a first president of the FIA of institutes for engine sport Safety (FIA Institut for engine haven security), which had been created both due to the hundred-year existence of the FIA.
