SICAV is d'investissement the abbreviation for the French term   capital variable and designates a Kapitalanlagegesellschaft with variable capital stock, created after French or of Luxembourg right. The purpose of a SICAV is limited to put on the company capital securities in order to use the principle of the Risikostreuung. It is comparable with a German Investmentaktiengesellschaft with variable capital ("§ 104 FF. InvG), which acts after the Investmentgesetz.

Contrary to a Kapitalanlagegesellschaft the SICAV does not administer and it gives oneself an external administrative company. Very frequently the cash transaction is paged out however on the Investment manager and the administrator (or other service enterprise), so that the SICAV has only a board of directors, that controls the Dienstleister. Only a infinitesimal small number of SICAVs employs employed personnel. A SICAV can have as so-called Umbrellafond (roof rear) several Subfunds (Unterfonds). These are legally dependent that is called them are subordinate control of the board of directors. Adhesion moderate they are to be treated however separately, i.e. the insolvency of a Subfonds does not concern the remaining.
