Showcase one calls a container, that at least on a side a Glaswand (of franz. vitre = glass; Latin vitreum = glass) or however a glass cover possesses and thus the view of inside kept articles permitted. A synonymous German name for the thing is the case.

The function of the protection container consists usually of using selected and often fastidiously presented articles for exhibition purposes. The protection purpose aims at it, the exhibition property before bad access, damage by unintentional mechanical influences, to damaging climatic influences, to retain dust and excessive light radiation.

Special showcases can be manufactured for outstanding Einzelobjekte or however for groups of objects. In public institutions as for instance they form the central part of exhibition installations for the museums. Authorities of all kinds use wall showcases for the publication of official reports. With it the wall boxes of combinations, which serve the flag and of the representative keeping of objects from the possession of the institution, selected, for the notice by messages to the members or in the special case, are comparable.

Within the range of the private sector cases have a great importance with the presentation of product samples and of sales objects. If they are aligned against pedestrian precincts within the range of building fronts furnished and with the glass front against traffic surfaces, particularly, they can form a special form of the shop windows, which do not have a second limitation of space inside the area and then from showcases to however often differ.

Also within the private sector showcases are far common for the storage of collection objects.

Formal the mobile showcases are to be differentiated from the firmly at the soil embodied and the exhibition mechanisms connected with a building to. Their construction knows bases of different material and integrated lighting mechanisms to cover. The contained looking area of arbitrary size can consist completely or only partly of
