The setback effect and/or recoil effect (English kick bake effect) is a back and a high striking of a power saw if with the rail point is cut.

Danger

The power saw can then very fast (within fractions of a second) and for the power saw leader to be usually untenable back-hurled. This can occur with the Entasten or when wrong cutting of trees which are under tension.

Consequences

The consequences can be heavy injuries in the face and shoulder range. By the sharp teeth of the chain saw (the of a chain saw work according to the plane principle and tear) heavy injuries (within the face range) can be caused also with a released chain brake.

Avoidance

The setback danger can be reduced by fundamental renouncement of cutting with the rail point and the use of half chisel chains clearly.

Nevertheless to cut is it sometimes necessarily with the rail point. About if with trunks which are under tension a Stechschnitt is necessary. Also with cases of trees, which hang forward can this become necessary. Therefore here special work engineerings are necessary.
