Sebastian of driving countries (* 17 January 1768 in Ettenheim, "† 19 February 1841 in Aarau) was a Swiss physician and politician. He was a governor of the short-lived canton Fricktal, which existed from 1802 to 1803.

Driving countries originated from the Ortenau, that at present its birth in front Austria lay and was therefore Austrian subject. It studied medicine and philosophy in Vienna and made for 1791 its conclusion. 1792 it began a place in forest hat as Stadtphysikus (Medizinalrat).

1797 had Austria in peacetime the Fricktal at France transfer, lain southwest from Campo Formio from forest hat. The area became a French protectorate. Driving countries, which had been dissatisfied with the Austrian rule, pulled thereupon in the Fricktal. It could be in-patriated 1798 in and attached contacts with struggle-high French officials. it lived 1801 briefly in Berne, where it opened a practice.

In peacetime of of 1801 Austria the Fricktal had finally at France transfer. The area the Helveti republic added, planned was a fusion with the canton Basel or the canton Aargau. Thereupon contact with prominent helvetischen and French politicians took up driving countries and made themselves strong for the creation of the canton Fricktal.

With agreement of the Frenchmen it expelled the Austrian officials, stopped the payments at Austria and appointed themselves the governor. He assigned his brother Karl driving countries the elaboration of the canton condition. Finally the new canton was proclaimed on 20 February 1802.

Governor made itself very fast unpopular with influential Fricktalern, since he acted very often self-willed and stormily. By the payment of high bonuses at its aids from state means (which was not considered at that time as dishonorable) the treasury emptied rapidly. Its political opponent explained it to at the end of of Septembers for set off and let him on 4 October for short time arrest. Sebastian of driving countries established itself in Aarau. After the canton Fricktal was come up on 19 February 1803 in the canton Aargau, it was amnestied. It opened a medical practice, could in the canton parliament be selected and was considerably involved in the structure of the aargauischen training system in the consequence.
