Enterprise history

The exempt private company had its beginning already 1892, when Heinrich Schmitz began into old person mountains with to build cars. 1935 was built the first semitrailers and luggage vehicles. In the eighties and particularly in the nineties the enterprise expanded, first in old person mountains and Berlin (1980) and then in death DIN and Harelaw, Great Britain (1991).

Center of the nineties had Schmitz cargo bulletin a existence-threatening crisis, since large orders away-fallow and production was too complex. Thereupon production was radically converted. Since then only four Grundtypen are produced instead of like before several hundred variants. The working hours for a trailer were reduced from 180 to 40 and the labour costs portion to 8 per cent.
