The Schempp Hirth aircraft construction GmbH is a German manufacturer of gliders.

The enterprise was created 1935 by Martin Schempp, the later mayor von Kirchheim under Teck, under the name sport aircraft construction . 1938 moved the enterprise after Kirchheim/Teck.

The first airplanes were "WOLF", "Minimoa" as well as the Doppelsitzer "Goevier". Today one finds only isolated copies of these models. During the Second World War production was changed over to airplanes and accessories for the Air Force. After the war production could be changed over only slowly gliders.

Well-known airplane samples such as Cirrus, Janus, Discus, duo Discus, Ventus and nimbus originate from production with seat in Kirchheim/Teck.

The gliders of Schempp Hirth rank internationally among the leading products, numerous records in the stretching gel flight with various nimbus and Discusvarianten were reached.

The newest model of the duo Discus "x" was presented to the public for the first time on the aero 2005 in Friedrichshafen. Apart from the improved chassis suspension and general aerodynamic refinements the "x" was provided with a rear edge flap, which is coupled to the flap system and landings with clearly steeper ground angle and make possible for decreased touch down speed.
