Those SAVE commercial company ltd. (until December 2005 SAVE trade AG) was the core of an important entrepreneurial group of the food retail trade in Germany. It lost 1997 their and is after reorganization since September 2005 a subsidiary of the EDEKA center AG.
History
Structure
The German savings organization was created after Netherlands model 1952. She is a freiwilliger union of large and retailers. The founders of the chain were were Werner Hagen, Rolf Knigge and Franz Weissbecker. They were afraid that the independent large and retail trade against the financially strong branch enterprises or the genossenschaftlich organized chains (EDEKA as dealer cooperatives, consumption as consumer's cooperative societies) placed on itself alone would not have future. From these independent wholesale businesses then the regional savings centers developed by fusions and further assumptions. 1952 developed regional trade associations, which for 1955 for German trade association SAVE registered association united. Growth

Concentration and expansion

- 1997 is taken over 8 self-service department stores and a cash & a Carry market by Holzer park purchase.
Crisis and reorganization
- Rapid growth by Aquisitionen and the group-internal fusions followed 1997 for SAVE trade AG the loss of the the French commercial's group of ITM Enterprises S.A.
becomes over their Swiss daughter Intercontessa AG majority shareholder with SAVES trade AG. From this now the No. 1 in the European food trade develops.
- SAVE must further grow. 1998 is transferred the Karlsruher Pfannkuch group with 212 markets, PRO Hamburg (a former consumer cooperative) with 152 markets as well as 32 markets in the area Kassel.
The assumption by ITM leads to a strategic reorientation of the savings' group. It concentrates on smaller and medium sized sales areas. 74 large INTER+SAVE self-service department stores are delivered. And a central purchase with the partner ITM, those is formed Swiss AGENOR AG.
- 1999 the remaining intereconomical buildings umgeflaggt on EUROSAVE. Starting from 2000 becomes then EUROSAVE Intermarche.
- Starting from 2001 is SAVES trade AG then a case of reorganization. The new line is called concentration on core authority: Wholesale for the savings retailers, consumer markets, Lebensmitteldiscount (net mark Discount and NET). An on-line trade is stopped. The Non Food Discounter KODI is sold.
- 2002 is delivered the C+C markets.
- 2003 is closed 74 consumer markets and transferred 117 to new owners. 4 is closed by 15 stock level places.
- 2004 is separated further consumer markets. ITM increases its participation to SAVES trade AG. SAVE delivers its portions of net mark Discount and NET at ITM.
Beginning of the Ausklangs
- 2005 are ITM sole owner. The center changes the legal form and is now SAVES commercial company ltd. By 12 September 2005 ITM sells these and the net mark Discount as well as 25% on net to the EDEKA center AG. That means for the savings organization in Germany deep cuts. The supply of the savings retailers independent over 2000 is transferred to the 7 EDEKA Regionalgesellschaften. Those SAVE trade AG, which at the end of of 2005 of still 2800 coworkers busy, will strongly shrink and in the EDEKA will come up. are folded up. The locking of all logistics locations except Schenefeld is announced.
Meaning of the group

At the end of of 2004 gave it still 2,173 independent retailers, whom under the selling line SAVE, SUPER+SAVE or SAVE express at the market arise. To the company still 35 consumer markets under the selling lines belonged EUROSAVE and INTERMARCHE. The 1,073 net branches of both net chains were sold to 2004 to the parent company ITM and remained thus in the firm group.
