Savage is a designation of the companies S3 Inc. and S3 Graphics for several 3D-Grafikchips. S3 Inc. had with this chips only moderate success, since there were substantial driver problems.

To the disappointment of S3 Inc. the production yield of the Savage3D was too bad and only less diagram chip could be delivered. Only Hercules brought a larger quantity to diagram maps with Savage3D into the trade. Together with bad drivers Savage3D on the market failed.
At the beginning of of 1999 nam S3 Inc. the Savage3D of the market and erstzte it with the Savage4-Familie. Many negative points of the Savage3D were revised: An additional TMU made Multi Texturing possible in a run. It could be addressiert more video memory and AGP 4x was supported. Despite everything, the new 3dfx Voodoo3 was faster and nVidia Riva TNT2 chip, but Savage4 had to offer the singular combination from 32-Bit-Rendering and S3TC to.
The Savage4 was blocked by many manufacturers, among other things of dia. moon Multimedia and Creative lab. 32-Bit-Rendering, S3TC and trilinear filtering offered the best quality at the time at that time. Also with DVD acceleration one was after the ATI rises up 128 second. Despite everything Savage4 came too late on the market.

Also Savage XP in principle only a repaired and easily revised Savage was 2000 and so much too late on the market. It was therefore never really sold also. Only with the successor delta chrome S3 Graphics could gain again something foothold.

The first result of this work were the Twister with Southern German Broadcasting Corporation to memory CONTROLLERs for AMD and Intel processors. In this IGPs a pure Savage4-Grafikkern was integrated.
As next stage of development ProSavage was combined the 2D-Teil of the Savage2000 with the 3D-Teil of the Savage4 and into appropriate Southern German Broadcasting Corporation-to-chip-corrodes integrated. Thus the 2D-Features was strongly revalued. Above all DVD rendition and the like were improved clearly thereby.
ProSavage GDR was a ProSavage Grafikkern with GDR Southern German Broadcasting Corporation to memory CONTROLLERs. Otherwise there were no changes.
