Samuel Sewall (* 28. March 1652 in Bishopstoke, Hampshire, England, "† 1 January 1730 in Boston) was an American buyer and judge.

It was born in England as a son of a puritanischen family, which emigrated 1661 after Massachusetts and established themselves in Newbury (Massachusetts). 1667-75 it studied in Harvard for the office for priest, decided however its wedding 1677 to hit a career as a buyer. His Mrs. Hannah resound was the daughter of the treasurer of the colony Massachusetts, and by its Patronage Sewall could attain different important positions in the puritanischen community. 1681-84 were subordinate to it the Bostoner printering, 1691-1725 were it member of the meeting of the council (Governor's council) of the colony Massachusetts.

1692 it was appointed by the governor Sir William Phips as one the judge in the Court OF Oyer and Terminer, the tribunal of the witch processes of Salem. With many debt sayings its judgement was relevant. 1697 he let a bus writing read out however in Boston, in which he admitted and for assigning asked its errors. Up to its death 1730 it inserted annually a nearly and a bus day and prayed for the Vegebung of its sins during the processes.

1700 it published the treatise "The Selling OF Joseph ", which represents one of the first documents of the American Abolitionismus. Sewall pleaded therein with Biblical arguments for the equality of all humans and placed so the legal standard of the slavery in agreement.

From special interest in the historical and culture science Sewalls are diaries, from which the classes 1674-77 and 1685-1729 remained, since they give an idea of the everyday life life of the Puritaner like also to the political and economic development of new England.
