The Saab 9000, was developed 1984 and came as a model year 1985 on the market (1986 in the USA). Many body parts 9000 Croma, Lancia topic and the Alfa of the Romeo 164 was based on a Gemeinschaftsproduktion as well as the Fiat. Optically the Fiat and the Lancia the Saab 9000 came very near, while the Alfa Romeo had only the chassis together. Due to this fact many parts under the four vehicles could be exchanged. For example the doors of the Fiat Croma fit directly in the Saab 9000, however the side impact protection standard with Saab was missing with the Fiat doors. The windshield of the Croma is likewise identically to that of the Saab 9000.Der cW-value amounted to 0,32. The Design was of Giorgetto Giugiaro.
The 9000 had the ignition key again at the instrument panel beside the steering wheel. The characteristic of the ignition key at the Ganghebel (as with Saab 90, 99, 900) was no longer given thereby, what for many Saab fans a reason was not to accept the 9000er as genuine Saab.
In the first year there was only one engine variant, a water-cooled 4-Zylinder Otto engine with turbocharger, 1985 cm capacity, 16 valves and 2 obenliegenden cam shafts with an output of 129 KW (175 HP).
The 9000 that was equipped current consumption, the average consumption, the range with the tank filling, on-board tension and the outside temperature to indicate could as first Saab with an on board computer. Further defective lights and open doors in a display were indicated. The Saab 9000 had in series a side impact protection in the doors, belt-taut in front and a hydraulic brake booster, later also with EXP.
History
Altogether 503,087 Saab 9000 were produced. The successor was the Saab 9-5.
