The Saab 2000 is an advancement of the successful regional airplane Saab 340. It has a trunk stretched in the comparison to the 30-sitzigen Saab 340, so that now 50 passengers can be transported. The Saab 2000 is with a cruising speed of approx. 665 km/h (360 kt) one of the fastest turboprop aircraft, which were ever-civilian developed. It flies with almost jet-similar achievement and is more economical in the comparison.
The project was tackled by Saab 1988. It was European put on with participation of CASA (Spain), Westland (England) and Valmet (Finland). The first machine flew 1992. In the context of the development it came to some very interesting technical Erneuerungen. So very potent Allison of turbo-props with large and slow-turning propellers was inserted. These engines carry approx. 4200 PS.In out of the cab per side provide an electronically regulated anti-sound system with many loudspeakers for a quiet interior noise (Active Noise control system). In the cockpit most modern EFIS was built - electronics by Collins with 6 monitors. The Saab 2000 is noticeable by a characteristic: It is the only airliner with a window on the toilet.
, The Saab used former Swiss regional airline CROSS air 2000 successfully in the regional enterprise. But hardly another airline was interested in the airplane. That was not last because of the fact that regional jets of other manufacturers brought as for instance the Embraer ERJ-145 or the Canadair CRJ 200 flight performances better for the same purchase price. Finally Saab pulled itself after 63 built Saab 2000 - about which 34 decreased/went back alone at CROSS air - from the civilian aircraft construction. From the built Saab 2000 fly today still 54 pieces.
With the CROSS air (since 2002 as Swiss firmierend, 2005 of the German airline Lufthansa taken over) this type "Concordino" was also called.
