The Saab 17 was a Swedish fall combat bomber of 1940.

The project was begun end of the 30's as L10 with the ASJA, but continued after the fusion with Saab as Saab 17. The bearing areas were revised, in order to make the employment possible as fall combat bombers.

Three different variants were built by the airplane:

  • B17A Pratt & Whitney R-1830-SC3G-Motor 1,065 HP (794 KW)
  • B17B Bristol Pegasus XXIV engine 980 HP (731 KW)
  • B17C Piaggio P.XIbis RC.400 1,020 HP (761 KW)

The midwing monoplane could be equipped with wheels, Skiern or floats. The tail landing gear could be drawn in.

The first flight took place to 18. May 1940. 1942 was the setting into service at the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). With the arising of the jet aircraft 1947 the service ended at the Swedish Air Force. Altogether 325 airplanes were built. 1947 was sold 46 machines to the Air Force, which remained until 1968 in the service. Also the Danish Air Force possessed some B17A.
