Rudolf (Christian Karl) Diesel (* 18. March 1858 in Paris; "† 29 September 1913 in the English Channel) was a German engineer and inventor.

Biografie

1872 seize Diesel the resolution to become "mechanic "(engineer) and lock 1873 the Gewerbsschule in each case as well as in the summer 1875 the training at the industrial school as the best one. It begins its study at the technical university in Munich. 1880 it retrieves the final examination at the technical university Munich with the best achievement in January since existence of the institute.

On 27 February 1892 Diesel announced a patent on a "new one rational thermal engine", on which it received the DRP 67,207 on 23 February 1893 "over working procedures and type for burn machines" at the imperial patent office to Berlin (issued with the date 28 February 1892). A second patent application (29 November 1893, DRP 82,168) modified the original carnot cycle with equal printing process. The first run of a diesel engine took place 1897 with an efficiency from 26,2 per cent.

Starting from 1893 Rudolf Diesel in the engine works Augsburg, from which 1906 the company MAN AG becomes, with financial participation of the company Friedrich Krupp develops the diesel engine. 1897 are finished the first functional model of this engine.

On 1 January 1898 the diesel engine factory Augsburg is created. On 17 September 1898 it comes to the establishment of the general society for diesel engines. The Diesels engine company in the autumn 1900 in London one bases. The first motor ships with diesel engine originate in 1903. to 1908 become the first small diesel engine, the first truck and the first diesel locomotive gebaut.1936 went the passenger car diesel engine for the first time into series. It was built into the Mercedes Benz, type 260-D.

1911 are again dissolved the diesel engine factory Augsburg.

Patent processes for many years wrecked Diesel health, and also economically it went downhill - to the businessman the ingenious did not have a talent.

On 29 September 1913 Rudolf Diesel went into Antwerp on board the post office steamer "Dresden", over into London at a meeting of the "Consolidated Diesel Manufacturing Ltd." to participate. It seemed to be in a good mood, however, after it had gone in the evening into its cab, was never again seen. On 10 October the crew of the Dutch government pilot boat "Coertsen" saw the corpse of a man in the water floating in violent swell. They could not save the corpse in dissolution, but only from the dresses some small articles infer (Pastillendose, purse, Taschenmesser, eyeglass case), which were identified by the son Eugen Diesel on 13 October in Vlissingen.

The exact death circumstances were clarified never, its survivors doubted the self selftheoryself theory however strongly and believed in a murder, with which it concerned to steal Diesel ideas. One of the murder theses assumes the German Empire of Diesel let murder in view of the approaching war, since this let the Diesel technology lizenzieren also to the rivaling nations France and Great Britain. Another thesis assumes Diesel was murdered on behalf the oil industry, since it worked straight on a bio Diesel variant. Nevertheless a free death of the inventor is considered as more probable, since it stood briefly before its financial ruin.

After Diesel death the bio oil research was stopped and the Diesel engine for fossil oil was only developed further. Thus the position of power of the oil companies at that time was guaranteed.

In view of the rising prices for fossil fuels in the most recent time ever more operator of diesel engines of an idea of Rudolf Diesels deliberate themselves. They operate their engines - after more or less changes at its environment - with vegetable oil. The cold pressed and filtered rapeseel oil use, which is used also as salad oil or finds preferred. Among the advantages of this oil equivalent utilizable value and substantially smaller pollutant development rank with the burn than with fossil Diesel fuel. This fact confirms the distance vision of Rudolf Diesel and makes the diesel engine also in the future an alternative to other combustion engines.
