RTL Television (originally RTL plus), usually briefly only as RTL (radio Luxembourg) designation, is a German-language private station with seat in Cologne. Developed RTL from the radio broadcasting program radio Luxembourg and the Fernsehstation Luxembourg. Today's owner is the RTL Group. RTL Television applies for 2 in the Federal Republic of Germany as full program after that. Broadcast state contract and employs 1135 firmly employee coworker (2003) with a conversion of 1.88 billion euro in the year 2003.

History

The private television took up its enterprise in the Federal Republic of Germany on 1 January 1984 with on two years the Ludwigshafener put on cable pilot project. It was the birth of PKS (late SAT.1). Later, on 2 January 1984, the RTL sending at that time from Luxembourg began one day plus its German-language program. On 1 January 1988 RTL changed plus its transmitting station from Luxembourg to Cologne. On 31 October 1992 plus from the transmitter name one painted and by mostly anonymous Television one replaced.

After initial difficulties it created RTL end of the 80's to become generally accepted. In the year 1993 RTL had its highest market share, in the same year became the transmitter also for the first time market leaders (and was the largest advertising medium of Europe). This it remained until 1997. Also 1999 and 2001 to 2003 the transmitter market leader became. In the advertising-relevant part of the 14-49 year old ones is RTL to today market leaders.

Since 1 September 2005 Anke is new business guide of RTL Television. The former business guide of the RTL daughter transmitter VOX replaces thereby Gerhard Zeiler, which concentrates on the guidance of the RTL Group. Since February 2005 already functioned as its Stellvertreterin with RTL Television. Zeiler had taken over the RTL management on 1 November 1998. Occasionally - of November 2004 until February 2005 - the former RTL Programmdirektor Marc Conrad led the enterprise.

Location

RTL plans to shift its location in the year 2008 within of Cologne von Junkersdorf (linksrheinisch) on the right Rhine side after Cologne Deutz. There for RTL a part of the current fairground is converted. A majority of the shows running with RTL in or with Cologne are produced, for example in in the Rhine Erft circle or in Cologne Ossendorf.

Journalist school

For January RTL and further partners of the medium industry offer new training as the television journalist to 2001.
