The tractor RS14 with the label name Famulus, of its drivers also jokeful "plum mash" mentioned, was built as a successor of the RS04 "favorite" from 1958 to 1967 in the VEB tractor work north living in the GDR. There was it in different basic remarks, as RS14/30L air-cooled and RS14/30W water-cooled (30PS), the RS14/36L air-cooled and RS14/36W water-cooled (36PS, also as all wheel), the RS14/46W only as water-cooled (46PS, also as all wheel), and RS14/40W only as water-cooled (40PS, also as all wheel), as well as the Famulus 60/RT330 (60PS, all wheel) with longer wheel base, than RS14/60 (starting from 1964). The Famulus 30 row had the Famulus 60 row already air-cooled or water-cooled 2-Zylinder (30 to 46PS), over water-cooled 3-Zylinder diesel engines. Due to the necessity for an efficient ratchet tractor the number of revolutions of the RS14/36W engines was increased by 1650U/Min to 2000U/Min with the RS14/46. The engine of the RS14/46 was not thermally overloaded with it and had a service life. Therefore the Motordrehzal of the RS14/46W was lowered with the successor the RS14/40W on 1800U/Min and the durability of the engine was increased clearly. Therefore the years of construction of the RS14/40W of models are younger than those the RS14/46W. The moreover one the RS14/40W under the technical designation RT325 was built. Same applies to the RS14/36L starting from 1963, which RT315 was then called. Blank by the way stands for wheel tractor and R-S for wheel tractor. The new run gene were among other things an overroll bar for the protection of the driver, an air pressure plant to carry by up to two air-braked trailers and the brake of the RS14 with steering angle with was no longer automatically operated.
Due to at that time the translation on up to scarcely 30km/h, relatively high for conditions, terminal velocity enjoys this tractor also this very day of large popularity and is here and there still in the employment to be admired.
Amazing way more air-cooled RS14 outlasted the time than water-cooled. Although the air-cooled engines often only 1000 hours up to the general overhaul hold out. Different the water-cooled engines, these are substantially more durable, although it often comes to cylinder head gasket defects.
Nevertheless the Famulus is tractor much likes, which is surely also because of its simple and nevertheless reliable technology. Particularly the two cylinder engine with its "unique sound" goes properly to the thing.
The spare part market looks to some extent good, since many RS14 in private hand survived and thus many spare parts are present. One must only find it.
The prices for Famulus tractors are very different, from the genuine good deal to restore up to the expensive tractor in original, restored condition are everything to be gotten.
Who saw once a Famulus tractor "live" and above all heard it in Errinerung keep.
