Roland Hetzer (* 17 January 1944 in Neuhammer/Sudetenland) is a German physician and scientist. It is considered as one of the internationally leading heart surgeons and transplant ion medical profession and is a medical director of the German cardiology center in Berlin.

Hetzer put 1963 down into Augsburg its Abitur and studied thereafter medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg university Mainz and starting from 1964 at the Ludwig Maximilians university Munich. The graduation took place 1969 about "brain blood circulation measurements with xenon 133 - clinical application of a Clearance method", the license to practise medicine 1970 in Germany and the USA. After following activity as Assistenzarzt in Augsburg, he accepted 1971 a place as a scientific assistant at the medical university Hanover, changed 1976 to the California Stanford university, 1977 as a specialist for surgery was recognized and to its return to Hanover starting from 1978 as an upper physician used. There it habilitierte 1979 with the topic "experimental one and clinical contributions for the topic of the surgical Reperfusion of the ischemic Myokardinfarktes" and received to 1983 an unscheduled Professur. The Herztransplantation, he established its main point of research, in Hanover starting from 1983. With its appointment to the university professor Hetzer came 1985 to the free University of Berlin and developed together with Emil as leading physician of the heart surgery and a medical director the German of cardiology center Berlin (DHZB) also.

For its activity Hetzer was distinguished with 1987 the earnings/service medal of Land Berlin and 1995 with the Order of Merit of first class. In addition it received one (1999: Shanghai Second Medical University) and several honour doctorates (2001: University of Fujian, 2002: Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski university Warsaw as well as University of Sarajevo).
