The Austrian company Modelleisenbahn GmbH (before times Roco model play goods GmbH) is one of the world largest manufacturers of model railways in the nominal sizes H0 (1: 87) and N (1: 160) as well as to smaller extent TT (1: 120) and H0e (1: 87) (Schmalspur).

The Roco GmbH manufactured first on behalf for model course companies from the USA and brought in the year 1967 for the first time H0-Modelle after European models in self-direction on the market. Particularly in Germany one obtained large successes. 1975 succeeded it to Roco to take over a large part of the tools from the existence from to. This step help the company to the final break-through in the European model course market.

At the beginning of the 80's-years Roco worked also in the track width 0; however these activities were not continued to pursue for lack of economic success and the line was reset.

The H0-Modelle manufactured by the company is equipped according to standard for the 2-Leiter-Gleichstromsystem. Beyond that however as standard equipment a multiplicity of interesting models is offered also for the neutral conductor alternating current system In addition it is usual that with the purchase of railroad car models clutches and axles for the desired current system without surcharge are exchanged by the dealer.

Roco came 2005 into economic difficulties and announced on 15 July 2005 bankruptcy. The business is continued now by a rescue company with name model railway GmbH, which possesses also the rights at the label name Roco.
