The rivalry degree indicates on markets, in what respect one understands another Nachfrager than rivals or competitors as a Nachfrager around the property and/or around its use. Synonymously one speaks also of competition degrees.

Example: If one lives in the protected area of a dyke, the use, which one has by the dyke, is decreased not by the influx of further persons into the protected area. Each consumer refers its use independently of whether also further users are present. In this case non--competition and/or a rivalry degree of zero is present.

Beside the Exklusionsgrad the rivalry degree is an important variable for the organization of the goods area into subspaces.
