With the English term Releasegroups (of the releases, German: Publication) one designates certain groups, which publish films, music, programs, Skripte and/or plays (Warez) illegaly in the Internet.

They consist of several persons, who are accordingly divided the release process:

• Leader - supervisor of the group
• Supplier - access to master software has available and places these to the group members
• Cracker - eliminates the copy protection
• Packager - the software packs into a distribution-usual format (e.g. 15.000.000 bytes (approx. 14.3 MT) large RSR files with ISO images)
• Courier/Trader - release distributes world-wide via ftp

Well-known Releasegroups is among other things Myth ("Myth is always ahead OF the class") and Class ("The class wants remain A myth long time after Myth wants gone"), which maintained a large rivalry up to the dissolution of Myth in October 2005.

For Releasegroups it in addition usually so-called NFO files are to be attached to release. These contain mostly the internal greetings that differently of Releasegroups, information over the source, thank saying etc. Well-known group of releases for GameZ is "silent gate"
