The RegioTram is a metropolitan railway system in Kassel and surrounding countryside, which drive on the railway system of the German course and the streetcar net going through with the same vehicle both in Kassel, whereby transferred from the course into the streetcar is void. Concept

To the conversion of the RegioTram in the public local passenger traffic different, interlinking traffic measures belong. A goal is thereby the introduction of the Kasseler streetcar into the main station Kassel and the continuation into the Eisenbahnnetz, so that the two-system vehicles (direct current/alternating current or direct current/Diesel drive) can drive through of the streetcar net as railway train in the surrounding countryside.

Advance enterprise

Since 10 June 2001 being castle Kassel Hbf already takes place a RegioTram Vorlaufbetrieb with first six of the Saarbahn lent motor coach on the distance. This means actually that the past regional course timetable is served by metropolitan railway vehicles, which was supplemented however with the 30-Minuten-Takt planned for the RegioTram enterprise. The vehicles of the type RegioCitadis, which is manufactured by Alstom LHB, salt lattice, delivered since July 2004, to have this advance enterprise starting from that 8. May 2005 taken over, the borrowed Saarbahn vehicles thereupon returned.

Since January 2006 first RegioTrams operates in the Kasseler streetcar net. The hybrid vehicles connect in the peak hours the Kasseler city center by the Lossetalbahn with hessian Lichtenau, to the terminator point of the strassenbahnlinie. The diesel electric vehicles use a direct connection between upper and Niederkaufungen over the Waldkappeler course, which is not electrified. This means contrary to the streetcar - which serves all stops - a of the travel time. This "snapping RAM "- line is called RT2.

Since 1 June 2006 RegioTram courses between Kassel main station and Melsungen over Baunatal, Guxhagen and operate. The RegioTram line 5 verkeht thereby once per hour and each second hour twice. The construction work for this was begun on 12 August 2005.

Originally it was planned to build the RegioTram stop able of the today's tracks 3-5. For this however a change of the direction and safety engineering of the station would be necessary, in order not to limit remaining traffic too strongly. Since the railways net AG cannot master this signal tower change however in time, the two intended blank platforms are put into the center of the station (tracks 4-6). This does not only have disadvantages; e.g. the total ensemble more harmonious and the technique areas, which lie underneath the tracks 1-4, need not to be shifted.

The construction costses for the change amount to about 25.6 millions euro.

Infrastructure

To the realization of the RegioTram belonged in addition, the expansion of the old streetcar net, like it in the last years, e.g. the extension already took place beyond bed living after purchases and Helsa, as well as the new and change from stops and the development from railway infrastructure. Since the RegioCitadis vehicles have stronger brake abilities and acceleration than the past regional courses of the railways, which drive on the railroad lines predominantly, new stations can be furnished in the Kasseler surrounding countryside (S. of line runs down). The moreover one in the city Kassel new infrastructures are developed. The largest measures are necessary by the broader and longer blank vehicles (2,65m/37m opposite 2,30-2,40m/30m of the past Tramfahrzeuge). Beyond that a new city center distance (Rudolf Schwander road, with stop of the same name), the branching at the Luther church and the shifting of the there station Luther place to at the end of of 2004 are converted. The new building distance will be used also of the SL7, SL9 and possibly later of the SL2, there the past tunnel station at the main station (1968 open) is closed. For the bypass of the RegioTram line at the sheath man place following the ramp in the spring 2005 a reversing triangle is built.

Integration

Of course also the adjustment of the clocks of all following means of transport is necessary by the introduction of this new means of transport. Since two blank lines with in each case 30-Minuten-Takt are to drive into the Leipziger road, these form a 7,5-Minuten-Takt with the SL4, so that the SL8 can be shortened. By the streetcar clock of the other lines close in the peak hour a special adjustment is not necessarily, however in the weak traffic time extremely important, in order to ensure the connections.

The integrals clock timetable 2006 for North Hesse sees a better linkage of regional and long-distance traffic forwards, since the regional courses of the conventional SPNV any more all stops in the close Kasseler do not need to cover surrounding countryside and so the regional rail suburban traffic substantially to accelerate.
