The regional economics (also regional economy) is a special discipline of the political economy and the regional science. It concerns itself with the economic connections in regions and represents thus the economical counterpart to the external trade. The economically next lower investigation level forms the town economy.

The regional economics is concerned with macro-economic and micro-economic aspects. Neighbouring scientific areas are among other things environmental economics, traffic economy and area planning.
