Meant "risk and safety sets", i.e. warning references to the dangerous materials under the elements and chemical compounds as well as preparing made of it coded R and S-sentences. They form the most important elements of the dangerous material marking together with the dangerous material symbols.

R and S-sentences are standardized within the European Union, in the appendix III and IV of the guideline 67/548/EWG in all European Union languages. The text on the packing is prescribed in the respective national language. In the goods traffic within the European Union the importing country require that already at the national border the texts stand in the language of the importing country on the packing.

In Switzerland the BAG is responsible, it leads its own list with translations.

For the way of writing of coding there is the following regulation: In accordance with appendix I of the guideline 67/548/EWG R and S-sentences stand either a hyphen (-) for the separate indication of the special dangers or security council impacts between the numbers, or a diagonal stroke (/) to the combined indication of the special dangers or security council impacts in only one sentence.

Referring to special dangers (R-sentences)

To materials with special effects on the human health (see to appendix VI chapter 4, the guideline 67/548/EU), which as carcinogenic, hereditarygood-changing and/or reproduction-endangering the category 1 or 2 was classified, the note E one attaches, if they were classified injurious to health at the same time as very poisonous (T+), malicious (T) or (Xn). With these materials the danger sets of R 20, R 21, R 22, R 23, R 24, R 25, R 26, R 27, R 28, R 39, R 40, R 48 and R 65 as well as all combinations of these danger sets the word "also" are placed in front.

Example:

• R 20 injurious to health with the inhalation.
• R E 20 also injurious to health with the inhalation.
