The quarter booklets for troop guidance and army customer was a military technical periodical, which was published between 1904 and 1914 by the large general staff of the German Reich.

Between 1823 and 1867 the military weekly paper had appeared to the military guidance of the German Reich as official magazine. Into the year 1903 the boss of the general staff Alfred von Schlieffen reached the thought of an official military magazine. The intention, which he pursued with such a publication became in the advance notice as follows formulated:

"You essays of tactical and war-historical contents as well as message over interesting maneuvers and reports over stranger will contain armies. With the latter above all weight put on the rendition for the organization, the training and guidance substantial one and instructive one, in the form of connected essays. These will be endeavored to inform as well as to clarifying important operational questions to contribute look for the reader sequentially about all efforts and features in the military area, observed within the strange armies. The essays of war-historical contents are to make the experiences of newer war history for the troop guidance usable."

The line of the magazine was subject to the war-historical department 1 of the large general staff, which was concerned with newer military history. Count von Schlieffen drew the attention of it to the fact that the magazine should affect "instructing and energizing" the officer corps. Polemiken should be omitted. In January 1904 the first expenditure appeared. Already in the 5.Heft also articles were published by officers outside of the general staff. Already soon even essays of reserve officers appeared. The magazine found good paragraph and was considered soon as renomierte discussion platform. In their contributions contemporary conflicts became, e.g. the Burenkrieg (1899-1902) or the Russian-Japanese war (1904/05) analyzes. As also essays appeared announced over foreign armed forces and other military-scientific topics.

In the late summer of the yearly 1914 publication was stopped, since the general staff was busy with the First World War now. After the war the peace treaty of Versailles forbade the existence of a large general staff, with which there was no more institution, which could publish a magazine. Only 1936 appeared under the line general staff of the army of the armed forces appeared with the military-scientific round-look a new magazine, which in the tradition of the quarter booklets for troop guidance and army customer saw themselves.
