A quality management system is a method of the management, at which the quality management orients itself. A quality management system guarantees that the quality of the processes and procedures is examined and improved. A goal of a quality management system is a durable improvement of the quality of production and final product.

The system is independent thereby in principle of the industry, the size or the structure of the enterprise, which uses it. The system describes methodology and supplies the tool, after which the coworkers in the quality management of a special enterprise align then their individual procedures for the safety device and improvement of the quality.

The most usual quality management systems, to which one can commit oneself, are:

• DIN EN ISO 9000:2000
• TQM - Totally quality management
• EFQM model of the European Foundation for quality management (The Excellence Model)
• Demingkreis (Deming Cycle, also PDCA circle) designated after Edward Deming

For the pharmaceutical industry a quality management system is obligatorily prescribed after the defaults of good manufacture practice (GMP).
