Protective clothing clothes are generally named, whose main function is the protection of the carrier from dangerous influences. Normal clothes protect the carrier also against heat, wetness, cold weather etc., but during explicit protective clothing this protection goes beyond the usual measure.

Carrying of protective clothing can be legally or by a professional association prescribed or simply a thing of the healthy human understanding.

A CE certified and protective clothing for persons, those, provided with treads according to DIN 1621-1 and -2, is legally prescribed motorcycle e.g. vocationally drives (e.g. police officer, messenger etc.). These must wear also helmets after ECE 22-05 test standard.

Professional associations prescribe a carrying of protective clothing of all kinds, which are to protect the worker against the dangers of the practise of the profession and increase the industrial safety within many ranges. To vocational protective clothing belong for instance eye protectors, protection of the ears, Sicherheitsschuhe and acid-resistant gloves. Particularly extensive personal protection equipment is used e.g. at the fire-brigade. The personal equipment of a Feuerwehrmannes covers boots, gloves and a helmet beside a Schutzanzug.

Among the cases, with which the healthy human understanding puts a carrying of protective clothing close, driving a motorized two-wheeler ranks, although for persons, who do not do this for vocational reasons, no legal obligation exists for carrying protective clothing.

Protective clothing can serve also the protection of the environment of a working person: Thus persons in operating rooms or pure areas carry protective clothing, in order to protect the environment against contamination e.g. by human cells or fibers.

Also special police units, as for instance the auxiliary police, use special protective clothing, in order to be protected in case of a demonstration. They usually carry protective helmets with visors, kneeling and Sicherheitsschuhe and bombardment-restraining the west. Additionally too this protective clothing carried at the body lead they mostly still different protection weapons with itself, as for instance shields.

Protective clothing in the everyday life

In the everyday life humans carry many kinds of protection clothes. If it rains, then it tightens a Regencape, is cold it, tightens it special pieces of protective clothing, which protect it by special isolations against cold weather (winter jackets etc.). Likewise as protective clothing the Halskrause and the Haarschneideumhang are to be classified with the hairdresser.

Protective clothing for Motorradfahrer

Protective clothing for drivers of and passengers on motorized two-wheelers (small force, light force and motorcycles, in the following briefly "Motorradfahrer") has to protect the primary task the Motorradfahrer against the negative consequences of a fall and/or decrease these and it before the weather to protect in particular cooling down by the wind (Windchill).

The most important components of the protective clothing for the Motorradfahrer are:

  • Gloves
  • Boot
  • Tread combination (a kind pair of overalls) or jacket together with trousers with treads, ideal-proves by a zipper connected
  • Motorcycle helmet
  • Kidney belt (like that this into the combination is not integrated).

Gloves are essential, since it is a normal reflex of humans to intercept itself with a fall with the arms and hands. Therefore heavy hand injuries can be already the result with falls with lowest speeds, if no gloves are carried. Gloves with special treads from carbon fiber or steel are a meaningful protection, if the motorcycle falls with a Lowsider (slip away to the side) on the circle-internal hand.

Boots (ideally waterproof) should be provided with a durable stealing or plastic reinforcement, in order to protect the foot with a fall optimally. In particular heaviest injuries can develop, if - e.g. when lateral slipping of the motorcycle away in a curve - which foot between motorcycle and road is eingeklemt and by the weight of the slipping machine pressed in slightly with this meter far over the bitumen is in this way rubbed. Carrying protecting boots, over the should over in case of a fall not by the foot, is thus an integral component of the protective clothing of the Motorradfahrers is enough to be able to be torn.

The tread combination and/or the jacket together with trousers has the important task apart from its protective function in case of a fall also to keep the two-wheeler driver warm. An undercooled driver is unkonzentriert and makes errors. The clothes may not be to hot however in the summer also, because an overheated driver is likewise in his ability of decision reduced. Worked satisfactorily leather or textile clothing (e.g. Cordura (registered registered trade mark of the company DuPont) or other textile tissues with at least 500 D) which with a climatic diaphragm here is provided. These climatic diaphragms (e.g. Goretex, Sympathex, Polotex etc.) let the sweat of the driver evaporate, make the clothes however nevertheless waterproof.

In case of a fall the material of the clothes must be extremely resistant to friction, in order to be able to protect the driver even with longer chutes over the bitumen at high speed. Here leather, more resistant despite most modern plastics, is still than textile tissues. In particular the expensive and more sensitive compared with cattle leather to wetness is extremely resistant to friction. Leather also hydrophobiert abgeboten. It is then so equipped that it does not full-suck itself no more with water, but this at the surface abperlt. Hydrophobiertes leather is more expensive than normal. The seams of the clothes are a weak point with the fall, since the threads can be easily chafed through. Covered seams are to be preferred here therefore.

The clothes should be equipped at shoulders, elbows and knees treads after EN 1621-1 and at the back with treads after EN 1621-2. Simpler treads from viscoelastic foam fulfill the higher requirements not and offer no optimal protection. Treads are the body form adapted plastic plates consisting of mobile segments, which absorb the impact in the particularly endangered body places in case of a fall. They are additionally with a resistant to friction surface provided and can firmly in the clothes integrated, in special interior bags or later in the clothes fastened be. Back treads can be carried additionally also in combination with a kidney belt with suspenders under the clothes, if this does not offer the possibility of accommodating the back tread e.g. in a special bag at the back. After an accident treads should not be re-used in principle any longer, since they deformed and in a renewed accident a decreased absorption effect to only have.

If one-piece combination is not carried, trousers and jacket should be interconnected by a zipper. This reduced on the one hand the draft, on the other hand prevents these that in case of a fall the jacket slipped and its protective function cannot fulfill any longer optimally.

The motorcycle helmet should be certified after ECE 22-05, in order to be able to offer optimal protection. Not certified helmets is to be advised against for reasons of security urgently. (see in addition also: Helmet obligation)

A kidney belt (e.g. from PU-foam, leather or neoprene) is to protect the kidneys against to strong vibrations and to keep the lumbar region somewhat more compact. In addition it protects naturally the kidneys sensitive to cold weather additionally against undercooling, but this is rather the secondary function. In this way kidney inflammations etc. are avoided. Also in the high summer a kidney belt should be always carried, since the body sweat in connection with the wind can lead fast to undercoolings at the kidneys.

With all these elements of the protective clothing an optimal passport form for an efficient protective effect is essential.
