Into Switzerland the police is divided into the Federal Office for police, the canton police and the city/municipality police. The police sovereignty is with the cantons, who however in larger cities as for example Zurich can to be delegated the tasks or a part of it to the city police. The Bundeskriminalpolizei has no own university-formed organs. Only canton and municipalities possess its own police troop, a department of the canton police are the sea-police.

The Federal Office for police (Fedpol) serves its kantonalen and international partners within the range of the internal security of Switzerland as center for information, co-ordination and analysis. Its activity covers on the one hand preventing tasks like the preventive state protection and safety precautions for the protection of endangered persons and objects. On the other hand the office notices also tasks in the context of the prosecution, in particular with the fight of the organized criminality. Apart from the co-ordination of preliminary investigations Fedpol determines within the ranges including its financing, as well as counterfeit money and leads the registration office for money laundry. Since 2002 leads fedpol in cases of (organized criminality, money laundry, corruption, terrorism) also own determinations under the line of the Federal Prosecutor.

In the further there is the police corps of the SBB, the course police, which was delegated organizational to one by the majority by the speciallegal SBB AG controlled subsidiary based on the course police regulation.
