With the plastic surgery (griech. plastic in - form, form, arrange) concerns it each form of surgery, which makes changes in the organs or the body surface for functional or aesthetic/cosmetic reasons. One differentiates between the main directions:

• Aesthetic surgery: Among them one summarizes form-changing interferences, whose indications are certain not medically, but exclusively by the desire of the patient. They are colloquially also as "cosmetic operations "admitted and have the improvement of the appearance to the goal.
• Rekonstruktive surgery re-establishes missing functions of the body, e.g. due to injuries, tumor distances or false formations, operationally. Typical operations are defect covering by fabric shifts or - transplantations, nerve transplantations or chord relocating. Substantial basis for these measures is the micro surgery.
• Burn surgery concerns itself with the acute and intensive care of the burns in specialized burn centers and the treatment of the burn sequences. Here v. A. methods of the rekonstruktiven surgery are used.
• Hand surgery is its own special field in the plastic surgery, the accident surgery and the It concerns itself particularly with the treatment of injuries, false formations and illnesses of the hand and the lower arm. The micro surgery, e.g. with Replantationen, is a substantial component also here.
