The goal of plant protection is it plants, in particular cultivated plants, before diseases, parasites and competition (weeds, to protect (protektive objective) or stricken plants to sound (kurative objective). Plant protection exercised by land and Forstwirten, and gardners in the cultivation of acquisition as well as in the house and allotment or at room and balcony plants.

Since the industriellen revolution long time chemical plant protection was the center of attention. Before already gave it in addition, methods, which those of today's biological plant protection close. The latter gains ever more strongly significance there it ecological aspects such as lastingness and proportionateness of the applied methods more strongly considered.

With the application of plant protection frequently a part of the field is not treated with plant protection agent, in order to be able to evaluate with the harvest the effectiveness of the assigned plant protection agent. One calls this range also spraying windows.

Meaning

Plant protection is a cultural achievement of mankind, in order to place above all the supply of the population with sufficiently food surely. Because the Nahrungspflanzen and Zierkulturen of humans descend from wild plants, which will strike likewise from the same diseases and parasits can. The Monokulturen put on in favor of economic working on way are however exposed to a stronger pressure of harming organisms with infestation than the wild plants, which can lead without protection or counter measures to the total failure of the cultures.

Methods

In such a way specified ''' integrated plant protection ''' differently methods, in order to a large extent to avoid or at least minimize the use of plant protection agents.

• The first measure is the correct culture guidance, which is to optimize the requirements for culture of the plants by location-fair sort choice.
• By suitable Vorkulturen, the employment and protection of plant stabilization means and other one biological measures are to seize.
• Physical measures are e.g. suitable cultivation (loosening, mechanical weeds distance,"Â…) as well as mechanical or manual removing from parasits.
• If above methods no longer to be sufficient remain last still the chemical measures. If a certain harming threshold is crossed, plant protection agent is to protect the cultivated plants against larger harm.
