The pantograph plants (Geraniaceae) are a family of the Bedecktsamer (Magnoliophyta).

The family has 805 kinds in 7 kinds. With some authors also the Biebersteiniaceae, the Dirachmaceae, the Ledocarpaceae and the Vivianaceae to the pantograph plants (Geraniaceae) are also counted.

Seen by the number of kinds, the kinds pantograph (Geranium), Pelargonien (Pelargonium) and heron bill (Erodium) are the most important. Most kinds of the family originate from moderate or warm climate zones, most frequently are them in the southern Africa to be found and are an important component of the Kapflora.

Description and naming

Most plants grow as one year's or as krautige plants of several years. The blooms are petals and zwittrig. The blooms are them are or zygomorph. The styluses grew together up to the point. Only two Samenanlagen are present per Fruchtblatt. The sheets are mostly gelappt to divided. are present.

Century numerous South African Pelargonien, the famous Amateurbotaniker Charles Louis L' de Brutelle was introduced could become generally accepted with the fact that Pelargonium was recognized as independent kind. In the linguistic usage at this time however already the designation had been already in-patriated "geraniums "for the Pelargonien kinds. One of the differences between the two kinds is: Geranium has blooms and Pelargonium has zygomorphe blooms.
