A punch (or Perforator) is an aid in the office, in order to punch in a defined distance of holes into the edge stacked paper sheet. Purpose of the holes is filing the paper in binders, loose-leaf binders or date planners.
The punch in Bonn of sour countries the Friedrich Soennecken was invented. This announced its Papierlocher for folders on 14 November 1886 to the patent. The first separate hand by forum gate ("Phoenix") 1901 were sold by the Stuttgart company Leitz, who had already invented 30 years before the Leitz file designated after it. 1925 extended Leitz the product by the central marking.
For centering the holes the paper is set on an adjustable rail. The distance between the holes is given by the Perforator. It amounts to for example with the DIN A4 and DIN A5 8 cm, the center centers itself with 148 mm and/or 105 mm. The holes have a diameter of approx. 6 mm.
For paper sheet in the format there is DIN A4 punch with 2 or 4 holes. For DIN A5-Seiten punches with 2 holes are used. For special purposes there are also different punches, approximately for the format A5 of six holes, which are arranged in two tripartite groups. These are used for example in date planners.
There are different punch models for the domestic purposes, the office and in the meantime even for on the way.
One calls the steel pins, which punch the holes into the paper, hole whistle.

The invention of the Konfettis is attributed the Venezianern, which are to have used the waste from the punches in the Karneval as cheap multicolored throw material.
Also in the Rhine country the out-punched circular paper segments (Konfetti) are used for the Karnevalszeit (one throws it with the festive removals over the jubilant people). For these purposes there are also special punch, the Konfetti in different other geometrical (triangles, stars,"Â…) or other forms (flowers, butterflies,"Â…) produce, at the same time the writing paper with a decorative hole provided.
